Over the past 5 years the Durban counsel has been upgrading the beachfront, including the beach facilities and promenade. This has opened up a new culture of afternoon activity along the promenade. Runners, cyclists, walkers, mom’s with prams, adorn the promenade enjoying the beauty that lines the Durban coastline.
As of late it has become increasingly popular to ride bicycles along the promenade and so a few bicycle hire shops have popped up all over the place. Best of all, in my opinion, is Bike & Bean. A combination of coffee and bicycles. Bike & Bean opened in 2013 and is located at Country Club Beach, just north of Suncoast Casino.
Bike & Bean’s barista, Themba, serves up a magnificent cappuccino. The coffee shop use Colombo Coffee, which if you read my blog you will know I am a huge fan of.
Last week Paul and I went down to the beach with high hopes of swimming. It was quite windy so I suggested we try Bike & Bean. I loved it! We sat at the counter tops, overlooking the gorgeous blue ocean. We drank superb coffee, and then we took two bikes out for a slow cycle along the promenade.
I was in my element. It was the perfect afternoon. We even jumped in the ocean for a quick swim after our cylce, came back to Bike & Bean (where they had kindly kept my bag) and chose from one of the many cold drinks they have on offer. You can buy sandwiches for lunch or a snack, and the service is out of this world friendly.
I so enjoy coming to places like this, where you are made to feel welcome and you never feel like you have overstayed your welcome. I can tell that Bike & Bean will soon become a regular hang out for me.
