If you are looking for a fun, homemade way of making Cold Drip Coffee then here is a recipe for you. Tried and tested by Paul and I, this Cold Drip Coffee is perfect for thise hot days when you just can’t stomach a hot cup of coffee.
We recommend using a Single Origin Coffee that is more chocolatey/nutty as opposed to something with citrus notes.
What you need
50g course ground coffee
250g ice
300g filtered/bottled still water
Aeropress
2 x Aeropress filter papers
1 litre Consol Jar or anything similar
1.5 litre Bottle (with cap)
Scale for your measuring
Step 1: Prepare the bottle for dripping
Pour the water from the 1.5 litre bottle into a jug. Cut base of bottle off. Pierce the bottle cap with a pin. Test with tap water until you get 1 drop every 2 seconds. Best you start with a small pin prick and make the hole bigger slowly until you get the required 1 drip per 2 seconds.
Step 2: Prepare you Aeropress
Put your Aeropress on top of your open jar (a Consol 1 litre jar works well)
Place the first filter paper into the bottom/cap of the Aeropress (wet filter paper first)
Place your 50g course coffee grind into the Aeropress.
Add enough filtered water to moisten the grind (approx. 60g) *some people recommend using warm water, we say it’s up to you.
Place the second damp filter paper carefully into the Aeropress, just above the moistened grind. You don’t want any gaps for water to leak through.
Step 3: Let the drip begin
Place the Aeropress funnel on top of your Aeropress
Balance the 1.5 litre bottle in this
Add 250g ice into the bottle (it’s ok if it’s a little over)
Add 300g filtered/bottle water
Allow to drip!
Tweak the grind/ratios as you like because ultimately it’s how you enjoy coffee that it should be drunk. We enjoy this recipe at home and hope that you will too.
